This Casebook showcases nine international examples of Ecosystem-based Disaster Risk Reduction (Eco-DRR), including Indonesia’s flagship Building with Nature project (2015–2021) that helped secure the vulnerable delta coastlines of northern Java. Featuring ecosystem restoration efforts—from mangroves and salt marshes to ecologically enhanced seawalls—the Casebook highlights how nature-based solutions deliver multiple benefits: reducing disaster risks, restoring ecosystems, adapting to climate change, and supporting sustainable development. A joint effort by the Ministry of Natural Resources of China and IUCN, this collection offers practical insights for policymakers, practitioners, and communities striving for safer, greener coastlines.
