In Indonesia we work to protect and restore its enormously carbon-rich and biodiverse tropical peatlands. These wetlands with carbon-dense peat soils are home to many threatened species, such as the Orang utan.
Hard structures like dams, sea walls, and canals have boosted coastal development, but also resulted in the loss of valuable coastal wetlands and their services. Using the Building with Nature approach, we aim to catalyse a fundamental shift in coastal and delta planning.
Together with research institutes and other NGOs, we conduct large-scale research in Indonesia to generate facts on the importance of mangroves for coastal protection and the maintenance of fish stocks.
